etnies GvR Snow: Format & Purse

TransWorld SNOWboarding Magazine’s Kurt Hoy is the Team Captain for the Regular team while FUEL TV’s John Stouffer is Team Captain for the Goofy team. Each Team Captain picks five snowboarders to pre-qualify for their Team. These five pre-qualified riders—the Starting Five—will go straight into the GvR Finals.

At 8 am on Saturday, February 23, there will be a one-hour Open Qualifier for four spots on each team in the GvR Qualifier. GvR Qualifiers to decide the Goofy and Regular Teams, takes place at 9 am, and will be comprised of thirty-two riders from each stance: twenty-eight pre-seeded riders plus the four from the Open Qualifier. The Goofy and Regular riders will compete in jams to make the cut to eight for each Team. Two of these spots will go to the top two women. Then two Wild Card riders will be chosen by the Team Captains to round out the ten riders who will join the five pre-chosen Starting Five. These fifteen snowboarders comprise each Team, Regular and Goofy.

etnies GvR Finals start at 1 pm. In the Finals, each team will ride together in jams, and a coin toss will determine which team goes first. The Finals consist of two halves. In the first half the top two scores for each rider will be added together to comprise the team score (30 scores total per team). At the end of the first half, the top five riders from each team will be determined. These top ten riders (five from each team) will all take three runs in the second half, with their scores counting towards overall team score and also to determine final placings. After the Finals, the Captain of the winning team will name an MVP, who will receive an additional $1000.
